About Story Travel
Some journeys only make sense at the pace of whoever lives there. Story Travel publishes travel writing built on staying longer: profiles of ferry crews, teachers, cooks and guides; essays written after a month rather than a weekend; cultural reporting from places that appear elsewhere as a photograph and a nightly rate. Readers come for the person in the frame, not the frame.
The profile is the house form. A piece begins with someone and reaches the place through them, which means naming a job, a wage, a language, and a reason that person stayed or left. Interviews happen face to face, and subjects are told plainly what the piece is for. Two things are refused here: writing that turns residents into scenery, and the word undiscovered applied to a community that has occupied the same valley for four centuries.
Stories carries the reported narratives and the people inside them. Culture covers language, faith, craft, music and the customs a visitor most often misreads. Slow Travel is the practice itself: trains instead of flights, long stays, rented rooms, walking. Essays gives writers room for argument and first-hand reflection. Tourism examines what mass visitation does to a place, from housing to water supply, and what residents have said about it. Travel News reports the developments behind those stories, and Business News follows the operators, funds and ministries whose spending decides which places get promoted next.
VUGA Media Group publishes Story Travel, which sits among the titles of the VUGA Enterprises Network.
